Chula Vista, CA – Jack and Joan Oien Pastors to Prisoners

Chula Vista, CA – Jack and Joan Oien Pastors to Prisoners

Jack and Joan Oien
Pastors to Prisoners / Chula Vista, CA

Warehousing criminals won’t “fix” them any more than storing your broken TV in the garage will make it work again. They need to change from the inside out.  Pastors To Prisoners brings about change by changing prisoners from the inside out.

Did you know…

  • The California inmate population is over 163,500 in 32 prisons: 93% males and 7% females. Average reading level is 7th grade.
  • Over 30,400 of the inmate population are serving life sentences; 635 are condemned. The average sentence is 53 months. The average age is 36.
  • The California prison system is in crisis. As of this year, almost all bed space is filled. New prisons take 42 months to build at a cost of $240 million each.
  • Over 60% of released prisoners are returned on either a parole violation or a new prison term.

Something must be done!

Inmates actively involved in prison chapel programs are 4 times less likely to return to prison.

  • With upwards of 4700 men to minister to, State Chaplains aren’t enough! They are able to average 2 hours in each chapel per week teaching and preaching and that leaves almost no time for one on one counseling.
  • A privately funded Volunteer full-time Yard Pastor is needed on each Yard to “stand in the gap” on a daily basis and teach these men how to use the tools in Scripture to make good decisions that will result in productive citizens when they are released.

Pastors to Prisoners is a California non-profit organization providing ongoing financial support to ordained ministers and church-licensed pastors uniquely burdened and willing to work with the incarcerated as full-time volunteer yard pastor under the direction of state chaplain in prison facilities. The goal for inmates is spiritual freedom in prison and success in society after release.

South Bay, CA – Child Evangelism Fellowship

Child Evangelism Fellowship
South Bay, CA

For almost 70 years God has been using Child Evangelism Fellowship to bring the love of Jesus Christ to children around the world. The Word of God puts a high priority on children. They are near to God’s heart and we believe that He is uniquely concerned about their spiritual welfare. Without the foundation of a relationship with God and training in Biblical principles for life they are unequipped to face what life will throw at them.

With workers in more than 150 countries around the world CEF has personal, individual ministry with more than 6 million children each year. God has given us a passion to not only bring children into a right relationship with God, but to disciple them in His Word and establish them in Bible teaching churches so that they can become mature in their faith.

I am convinced that there is no work that is more pertinent or effective. Perhaps God is leading you to become more involved in the lives of children, for His kingdom’s sake.

CEF is here to train, equip, and encourage you as you follow that leading. I trust that this web site will be a rich resource for you and that God will use you in a tremendous way to make an eternal difference in the lives of boys and girls.

Reese Kauffman.
